A woman in a small Russian town is said to be able to identify colours simply by touching them. According to local reports, she can read printed words with her fingertips while blindfolded. Scientists who tested her claim that her results were far better than chance, although some of them suspect she may have glimpsed the pages. Others argue that the skin may be more sensitive to light and heat than we assume. Until careful, repeated experiments are carried out, it would be wise to treat such stories with interest but also with caution.
