同主题原创短文Original reading
Long before writing existed, communities passed on their history by word of mouth. Stories of floods, migrations and great leaders were memorised and retold at gatherings. It is these oral traditions that sometimes guide modern scientists to the right place to dig. Fossils tell us what early humans looked like, but it is the stories, however changed by time, that hint at how they lived and what they feared. Neither source is complete on its own. The most convincing picture of the distant past appears only when bones and voices are studied together.
