My neighbour Paolo used to leave home every morning in a dark suit, carrying a leather briefcase. Everyone believed he worked in a bank. In fact, he drove a delivery van, and he changed his clothes in a café near the station. His wife had always wanted a husband with an office job, and he did not want to disappoint her. When she finally found out, she was not angry. 'I'm used to surprises,' she said, 'but I wish you had told me sooner.' Now Paolo goes to work in jeans, and he says he has never been happier.
